Lore: Burdul

Burdul is a stretch of land between Polinskar and Harfal rich with mineral resources, and yet untouched by the ravaging ice storms native to the Polinar and Hel regions of Polinskar. Though it is more harsh and less fertile than the Skar, the Polinskarin barbarians valued the respite from the storms. Those of Harfal attempted incursions (and outright invasions) of Burdul, hoping to gain some way of making up for the poor metal reserves of their country.

After changing hands several times after the fall of Trestin's empire, Burdul is no longer contested, but also no longer desired. Meaning "the Burial" in old Polinskarin, Burdul is home to ghost towns and ruins of the early founding and before. There are many superstitions both by the Midlanders and the Northerners regarding the area, and many refuse to go there for fear of wights, ghouls and other monstrosities defying description. It is uncertain what has caused this change, many areas in Aithe have been subject to constant war, but few places have taken on the personality of the conflict like Burdul.

Some theories include: miners digging to far have unearthed something they should not have, a curse by a powerful entity, a merging of planes at that location, or a dark magic brought back from the Polinskarin from beyond the wastes in Hel (unleashed when they realized they could not win).

Though terrifying, it is not uncommon for certain groups to enter Burdul hoping for wealth and trade goods. It is still the most mineral rich area the Harfal side of the midlands (rivaling even Dormar of Turindal), and there are whole towns abandoned with belongings for the taking (though some are still on the corpses of their former owners). The most known groups to go in are Polinskarin barbarians and the Coastmen of the Ouras Coast.
